The Organizing Committee of the 2004 PIPF has under it an art and curatorial committee, which is responsible for all the art and curatorial matters of the festival as well as for its organization, coordination and implementation. Director of the Art Committee is Wang Yue, (Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 2004 PIPF, Deputy Chairman of China Photographers’ Association and Chairman of Shanxi Photographers’ Association).

The Art Committee has under it an academic committee, responsible, collectively or independently, for the artistic direction of all the photo exhibitions and the collection of photographic works. And for this year’s exhibition, we have adopted the internationally prevailing practice of a curator system. Each member can independently organize or invite professional curators to design the exhibition. The art committee will provide necessary logistics for the academic committee so as to guarantee its members to proceed smoothly with his or her work. The academic committee is currently composed of the following six members:

l       Rene Burri, a veteran photographer of Magnum, France;

l       Robert Pledge, President of Contact Press Image, USA and Chairman of the WFF jury board;

l       Yann Layma, President of Yann Layma Office;

l       Wu Jiabao, an independent curator; guest professor of Lu Xun Academy of Art, Shenyang and Dalian Medical University, Dalian; Member of the Board of Jury and counselor for Taipei Fine Arts Museum;

l       Gao Bo, photographer, architectural designer, curator; member of China Photographers’ Association, member of China Democratic League, founder and first-term chairman of China Heritage Fund, General Manager of Beijing Bocang Cultural Co., Ltd;

l       Wu Peng, Director of exhibition department of China Photographers’ Association.
