Pingyao International Photography Show |
In 2002, the Pingyao
International Photography Festival changed its name
into the Pingyao International Photography Show
(PIP) according to the national regulations concerned.
Its features, as compared with the 2001 PIP, were
as follows.
1. More internationalism.
In the aspect of guests and exhibitions, the 2002
PIP attracted 123 photographers from more than 10
countries including France, the U.S., Britain, Spain,
Denmark, Russia, Korea and Japan. The registered
number of participants doubled over last year; above
4, 000 works were on display at 94 domestic and
international exhibitions. In the aspect of attracting
investments, Alcatel and L'Oréal, two famous multinational
companies, joined in with launching the Alcatel
Book of Photographer Prize and L'Oréal-Best Chinese
Contemporary Photographer Award. In the aspect of
the press conferences, the Organizing Committee
of PIP respective held the press conferences in
Paris (France), Milan (Italy) and Madrid (Spain)
on May 21, May 28 and June 2. The above-mentioned
things indicated that the internationalism of the
PIP was improving.
2. More art connoisseurship. Some international
celebrities in the field of photography, French
ambassador to China, cultural attaché of Spain,
world-renowned director Tang Jili took part in this
event; some selected works from abroad were firstly
put on view in China and the concept photo show
reflecting the latest probe and achievement of Chinese
photography and the 5-woman photo exhibition drew
the great attention in photographic circles.
3. More atmospheric. The gala for the
opening ceremony with the theme of “Lights of Civilization
of Shanxi” as well as serial folkway activities
may make the PIP brim with an atmosphere of jubilation
and auspiciousness from beginning to end.
